About the Formulation
Ornidox is a fixed-dose antimicrobial combination containing Ofloxacin 200 mg and Ornidazole 500 mg, providing broad-spectrum antibacterial and antiprotozoal activity. It is formulated for the treatment of susceptible mixed bacterial and protozoal infections, particularly those affecting the gastrointestinal tract.
Indication / Uses
Used in the treatment of mixed bacterial and protozoal infections such as infectious diarrhea, dysentery, and certain gastrointestinal infections.
Mechanism of Action (MOA)
Ofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, disrupting bacterial DNA replication and causing bacterial cell death. Ornidazole is converted into active metabolites in susceptible anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, causing DNA damage and inhibition of nucleic acid synthesis. Together, they provide complementary coverage against bacterial and protozoal pathogens.
